In a remarkable stride forward, Tecno, the esteemed smartphone manufacturer, unveiled a groundbreaking rollable phone concept dubbed the Phantom Ultimate last year. Originally presented solely through demonstration videos, this concept has now transitioned into a tangible prototype, garnering significant attention at the Mobile World Congress (MWC).
Similar to its predecessor, the Tecno Phantom Ultimate boasts the capability to extend its screen to the rear. Upon extending the main screen, the additional screen on the back seamlessly rolls back to the front, as illustrated in last year’s demo video.
Sporting a 6.55″ display elegantly curving around its left edge initially, the phone undergoes a transformation with a simple push of a button. Witnessing a swift expansion, the screen widens, gradually unfolding to accommodate more space. In a mere 1.3 seconds, the screen size escalates to 7.11″, albeit with an altered aspect ratio, demonstrating the seamless evolution of the device’s display technology.
Much like foldable phones, the Phantom Ultimate can dynamically adjust its UI around the shifting screen. This flexibility allows the interface and apps to move as the screen extends or retracts seamlessly.
Initially measuring a thickness of 9.93mm, the device once stood as one of the slimmest options among foldable smartphones. However, recent advancements in horizontal folding models have surpassed this benchmark, with some now achieving dimensions below the 10mm threshold. The Honor Magic V2, for instance, has emerged as the market’s slimmest foldable, further pushing the boundaries of innovation in smartphone design.
